Captain Yokai Shirogani is trapped inside a failing pilot sphere, half-submerged in nutrient gel that is breaking down faster than her body. Systems flicker. Time slips. Her thoughts loop without warning, dragging her between the wreckage of deep space and a childhood lake where she once dove into darkness without knowing what waited below.
The distress beacon is still transmitting. Rescue is on the way. At least, that is what the instruments say.
As reality thins, Yokai begins to understand that the ship is not simply broken, and that her memories are no longer hers alone. Something vast is reaching through the gaps, feeding on motion, energy, and thought, leaving just enough behind to keep her alive.
